Warhammer 40k is more of a beer and pretzels, bucket o' dice kind of game and Infinity is a more hardcore tactical style of game. Going into specifics would be a long process but they are very different kind of games. More rules per model, with discrete "do a job" figures instead of armies battling armies. Infinity is optimized to a smaller overall model count. Reactions usually get one die for each guy who can react. Target numbers get modified by cover and gun range and so on, while the active player generally throws multiple dice for an action. Roll a d20, get as close to your target number as possible without going over. But if I have a hacker, I can screw up your spotter, and so on.īase interaction is blackjack rules. But if I have a spotter, I can try to shoot through it. But I'm response to being shot at, you can throw one. Reactive play echoes through the design space smoke grenades disperse quickly, so they only last for the turn they're thrown. Since their responses can be dodging or firing back, their gear and your cover matter. It's a lot crunchier shooting a guy takes into account the weapon you're firing, distance, cover, if they're in cameo, and the number of shots. The reactive play system means that I'm not watching the other player take my guys of the table for a turn. Remember, applying two thin coats is better than one thick coat.
